SENIOR/PARENT ORIENTATION CLASS OF 2013

GRADUATION INFORMATION

Herff-Jones is the company that supplies Ripley High School's graduation items. Mr. Rod McClanahan and Ms. Joyce Cotsmire are the representatives.

Order packets/catalogs will be distributed October 17 during the Senior Class meeting or students may pick up a packet in the office or see Mrs. Sayre in room 114 to obtain a packet. Students/parents will place orders on Tuesday, October 23.

Approximately one week later, seniors (or their parents) may give the representatives their completed order form with items marked that they wish to order and a $95.00 deposit. Students may also pay the full amount. Otherwise, the total amount will be due in February. Students/parents may also make monthly payments by sending money to the company address which will be listed on the bottom of the order form. The company will send a bill to either the home or the school. Items will be delivered in April. (There is a late ordering fee for those who don't place their orders on time.)

The company offers many items, but your child needs only a cap, gown, and tassel which is sold as a unit to participate in graduation ceremonies. Everything else is at the discretion of the child or parent. The school encourages no one to order supplemental items.

If a student is in doubt about his/her graduation, please order a cap, gown, and tassel anyway. You will NOT have to pay for the cap, gown, and tassel if the student does not graduate. Any personalized items will have to be purchased. (You do not have to make a deposit if ordering only the cap, gown, and tassel. You may pay for it when it arrives.) Approximate cost of a cap, gown, and tassel is $45.00 plus tax, handling and shipping.

If you have any questions, Mrs. Sayre, graduation coordinator can be reached at school from 9:30 to 10:20 at 372-7355.

Please watch the deadlines and save yourself money by ordering on time.

Graduation ceremonies will be Friday, May 24 at Memorial Stadium at 8:00 p.m. The Baccalaureate service will be Wednesday, May 22 at 7:30 at the Ripley High School Auditorium. Formal awards will be Friday morning, May 17, at 8:00 a.m. in the auditorium. All seniors are expected to participate in these events.

Helpful Reminders

  • Order packets will be distributed at the senior meeting which will be held on October 17. Orders will be placed by Students on Tuesday, October 23. If students are unable to attend the meeting, packets may be picked up in the office or from Mrs. E. Sayre in Room 114.
  • If your child is not sure if he/she will graduate in May, please go ahead and order a cap/gown/tassel unit. You will not have to pay for the gown if your child does not graduate. You will be responsible for paying for any personalized items.
  • Order enough announcements. Make a list now of relatives and friends you plan to invite. There are very few extras in May, and they go very quickly.
  • The caps run small, so if your child has a large head, or thick hair, it would be wise to order an XL cap. Most males need to order an XL, and please draw attention your selection on the order form.
  • Most seniors order the signed senior shirt. There are very few extras of these as well, so make sure you order one now if you want one.
  • Place your order on the order date even if you aren't able to pay the deposit. This will ensure you get the same announcements as the rest of the class.
  • Please keep your receipt. It will show the balance due, and you can double check and make sure you received all items when shipped. Keep cancelled checks and credit cards receipts as well.
  • A deposit of $95.00 is required if ordering personalized items or your total exceeds $150.00. Again, if you aren't able to pay the deposit on order day, please submit your order.
  • If your child would like an extra tassel, it must be ordered. The memory tassel is the standard tassel worn with the cap and gown. The Ice Tassel has the numbers formed with simulated diamonds and may not be worn at any of the formal ceremonies.
  • Plese have your child be honest about his/her height and weight. It is also important that items are checked for size and length when they arrive in April. Also make sure the zipper works, and there are no visible snags or flaws on the gown. Check the seams as well.

If you have any questions I can be reached at 304-372-7355 before or after school, or from 9:38-10:20. My e-mail is kennedy75@hotmail.com.

Cap and Gown Ordering Information

The Herff Jones representatives will be at Ripley High School to take orders for custom school graduation announcements, cap and gown units, and other keepsake items on October 23 during school hours and after school until 4:00 p.m. All items will be on display. A $95.00 deposit will be required to secure your order if you are ordering dated, personalized, or pre-delivered items or your total exceeds $150.00. If you do not have a deposit, please submit your order anyway or you can mail it any time before the deadline. If you are ordering only a cap, gown, and tassel, no deposit is required. If you are unable to place your order on the order date, you can mail your order/deposit directly to Herff-Jones at the address on your order form. Orders may be placed on-line at www.higraduation.com. Orders cannot be placed over the phone. All prices will increase after November 21 and a $10.00 individual processing fee will apply. Your order deadline will be in your packet. Standard 2013 announcements may be substituted for custom school announcements after the deadline, and no orders for t-shirts or other custom/special items will be accepted after December 19.

The final payment on your graduation items will be due before February 10, 2013. Herff Jones will give you payment coupons and instructions for mailing your balance when you place your order. If you wish to make your final payment on delivery, cash only will be accepted. No checks, credit cards, or debit cards will be accepted for final payment.

Order more than enough announcements. There are very few extras in May, and the price increases.

Check all name cards, return address labels, and anything else that is personalized as soon as it arrives. That ensures that enough time will be given to correct the misprints.

Inspect and try on the cap and gown immediately. Let Herff Jones or me know if there is an obvious flaw and the gown needs to be replaced. If the gown is too small or large, let us know immediately.

Most seniors wish they had ordered a senior shirt once the order arrives. There are very, very few extra shirts for sale. Please order a shirt in October if you think your child might want one. If you change your mind, someone will buy it from you.

If problems arise at any point, e-mail or call Herff Jones. I usually get a better response from e-mails since they travel frequently. Our representatives are Rod McClanahan and Joyce Cotsmire.
